9ASIAMANUFACTURINGREVIEW.COMOCTOBER, 2024Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has been allotted 827 acres of land in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, for the establishment of a new manufacturing plant, as announced on Monday. TKM had previously signed an agreement with the state government on July 31 to develop a greenfield manufacturing facility specifically for electric and hybrid vehicles.The land has been provided within a greenfield smart industrial city, created through a joint partnership between the Central and Maharashtra governments under the Maharashtra Industrial Township Limited (MITL) as part of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) project. The industrial nodes of Shendra and Bidkin are being developed as key locations for this initiative. The Bidkin node will host TKM's new facility.TKM plans to invest 21,000 crore into this manufacturing plant, with construction slated to begin soon. Production is expected to commence by January 2026. The plant is anticipated to generate 8,000 direct jobs and 18,000 indirect jobs. Following the agreement, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had expressed that the project would manufacture 4 lakh electric and hybrid vehicles annually, signaling a major transformation in the automobile sector with the 20,000 crore investment.
