5ASIAMANUFACTURINGREVIEW.COMSEPTEMBER, 2024The oil and gas industry in Asia has been experiencing considerable growth in the recent past due to rising energy demands, economic growth and increased industrialization. The Asia-Pacific region is currently the largest and the fastest-growing consumer of the global energy, especially the oil and gas, which remain the most popular energy sources in the region. This growth has been mainly driven by China and India, two of the largest economies in Asia. As mentioned earlier, both of these countries are import dependent when it comes to meeting their increasing energy demands especially from oil and gas sources. China's demand is mainly for industrial use and transportation while India's demand is attributed to its growing urbanization and demand for electricity. South East Asia also, with Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam among the rising demand countries, is adding natural gas to its energy mix. Also, the spending commitments in liquefied natural gas (LNG) related facilities are on the rise in the region. LNG importing countries include the two giants of Asia, Japan and South Korea; while potential giants of the future import markets are Bangladesh and the Philippines. Asia is anticipated to continue being the largest import market of LNG in the world. However, there are several challenges that the region experiences such as geopolitical risk factors, crude oil price fluctuations and the shift towards green energy. Even the countries like China are trying to diversify the portfolio of energy resources and investing in the renewable energy sources but still the demand of fossil fuel is higher. As a result, governments and companies throughout Asia are diversifying their investments in both conventional oil and gas and in the process of decarbonization. In this special issue, Asia Manufacturing Review provides you with information about the top companies from the region.
