Hyundai Motor India, the subsidiary of the South Korean automotive brand Hyundai, has submitted a pre-feasibility report for the revamping and modernization of its manufacturing facility in Irungattukottai, Tamil Nadu. The project, which entails an investment of Rs 1,500 crore, aims to expand the existing facility and increase its size from 5.40 lakh sq. meters to 7.21 lakh sq. meters.

The company plans to add an additional 1.81 lakh sq. meters of built-up area at the facility, which currently spans 538 acres and has the capacity to produce 8.50 lakh cars per annum. Despite the increase in size, Hyundai Motor India has indicated that the production capacity will remain unchanged.

The expansion is expected to create approximately 155 new jobs, increasing the current workforce of around 18,706 employees. Hyundai clarified that there will be no additional land area acquired for the expansion, and the total project site covers 21.78 lakh sq. meters.

Hyundai Motor India aims to complete the expansion within the next five years, which is part of its ongoing efforts to enhance its manufacturing capabilities in the region.
