LONGi Green Energy Technology Co, a Chinese photovoltaics company, is investing MYR 1.8 billion ($380 million) in Malaysia to establish a solar photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing facility. LONGi announced on Oct 17 that the first phase of its Serendah Module Plant in Malaysia has officially begun. This facility, located in Serendah, Selangor state on Malaysia's west coast, is an important part of LONGi's manufacturing strategy in the country.
According to the statement, the start-up of operations at the LONGi Serendah Module Plant represents the completion of Malaysia's comprehensive photovoltaic industry chain. This is a watershed moment in LONGi's global expansion.
LONGi's first manufacturing presence in West Malaysia is represented by the 140-acre module factory. The facility is outfitted with cutting-edge photovoltaic technology and equipment. It will be built in two phases, with a total capacity of 8.8GW (2.8GW in the first phase and 6GW in the second). The second phase has already begun, with the first phase now fully operational.
Currently, the Serendah Module Plant has created approximately 900 local job opportunities, with a number expected to exceed 2,000 in the near future. Bahria, a Malaysian Ministry of International Trade and Industry representative, emphasized Malaysia's unwavering commitment to long-term growth.
"We envision Malaysia as a central hub for global trade and industry, fostering an environment that champions innovation, sustainable expansion, and technological prowess, "The inauguration of the LONGi Serendah Module Plant today demonstrates our collaborative efforts with LONGi to achieve sustainable development. With the global photovoltaic market poised for significant growth, Malaysia is on the verge of green revitalization, which gives us great pride," she said.
