Qualcomm Inc., based in the United States, is "closely collaborating" on the semiconductor packaging manufacturing opportunity in India, and the company is "very excited" about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government's priority of localization.
"We're always excited because this (local manufacturing) has become a priority for the Prime Minister's Office and the country as a whole." We have a close relationship with Tata." Qualcomm Inc.'s chief financial officer (CFO), Akash Palkhiwala, told ETTelecom.
Based in San Diego Qualcomm Incorporated is a leading semiconductor manufacturer for wireless applications.
"Tata has been a partner for us for a long period of time, and as they start to embark on a new journey on the semiconductor manufacturing side from packaging perspective, that is clearly something that we would love to find a way to use that capacity," Palkiwala said in a statement.
Following the Centre's Atmanirbhar or self-reliance ambition to diversify the supply chain following Covid-19-induced shutdowns worldwide, Tata Sons, a Mumbai-based India's leading conglomerate, plans to set up a semiconductor manufacturing facility in India.
In 2021, India announced a Rs 76,000-crore incentive programme as part of a larger initiative to support the development of the country's semiconductor and display manufacturing ecosystem.
