ABB India opened its new state-of-the-art factory in Nashik, doubling its capacity for Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS). This plant will produce primary and secondary GIS. It will provide services to customers in a variety of industries, including power distribution, smart cities, data centres, transportation (metro, railways), tunnels, ports, highways, and other infrastructure developments.

The new 78,000-square-foot facility is equipped with smart and lean manufacturing capabilities. It uses advanced manufacturing robotics to connect people, processes, and assets while also relaying real-time data for increased productivity. This green factory building, designed in accordance with the Indian Green Building Council's (IGBC) standards, optimises the use of water and energy. The factory also uses carefully selected materials to reduce environmental impacts throughout the life cycle. The factory has also achieved its RE100 (100% renewable electricity) commitment to achieve low carbon operations, in line with ABB's Sustainability Strategy 2030 targets.

With the opening of this new factory, ABB India also introduces the PrimeGear ZX0 in the country. In the Nashik factory, this eco-efficient switchgear is built on ABB's SF6-free ecoGIS with Dry Air technology for applications up to 12kV, assisting in the transition to a greener, smarter, and safer future. Its tough, compact design produces 20% less heat while saving energy and improving safety. This ecoGIS reduces the potential for global warming by 100% by using SF6 alternatives. When compared to conventional switchgear, PrimeGear ZX0 enables remote monitoring and reduces the product installation footprint by up to 25%. As a market leader in GIS, ABB's India factory will strengthen local manufacturing and contribute to the creation of a low-carbon society.
