The Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Emirates Global Industries - Alfahim Group to facilitate the manufacturing and assembly of electric commercial vehicles (ECVs) in Abu Dhabi. This agreement aims to support the establishment of an industrial facility for the production and assembly of electric buses and trucks, as well as the development of energy storage and charging solutions, aligning with the objectives of the Abu Dhabi Industrial Strategy (ADIS).
The collaboration between ADDED and Alfahim Group underscores the commitment to bolstering the transportation and green solutions sector in partnership with key players in the private sector to further enhance Abu Dhabi's status as an industrial hub. Additionally, the initiative includes the implementation of specialized training and qualification programs tailored for UAE nationals interested in pursuing careers in the ECV manufacturing sector.
Ahmed Jasim Al Zaabi, chairman of ADDED, participated in the signing ceremony of the MoU, highlighting the importance of the agreement in fostering the development of local ECV manufacturing projects and addressing the anticipated increase in demand for energy storage and charging networks. ADDED will extend its support to Alfahim Group in fostering collaborations with international manufacturers to establish a robust ECV production ecosystem in Abu Dhabi.
This partnership complements Alfahim Group's existing collaborations with industry leaders such as MCV from Egypt and SANY from China. Arafat Al Yafei, executive director of the Industrial Development Bureau at ADDED, emphasized that the collaboration signifies a significant milestone in strengthening cooperation with the private sector to advance manufacturing initiatives. The initiative aims to establish a sustainable ECV manufacturing ecosystem that not only benefits the environment but also creates substantial economic opportunities and jobs.
