CDIL, an electronic component manufacturer, has become the first in India to begin producing Silicon carbide semiconductors for use in high-power-consuming technology products.
CDIL Executive President and Chief Operating Officer Pankaj Gulati told PTI on the sidelines of the company's new surface mount semiconductor packaging line launch that the company has begun exporting Silicon Carbide (SiC) components to China, the United States, Europe, and Australia.
"We are India's first company to begin manufacturing of Silicon Carbide semiconductors." "We've started shipping them to China, the United States, Europe, and Australia," Gulati said.
CDIL operates manufacturing facilities and a reliability lab in Mohali and Delhi, serving industries with a focus on the automotive, defence, and aerospace sectors.
The company's expansion has received incentive support from the Centre under the Scheme for Promotion of Manufacturing of Electronic Components and Semiconductors (SPECS).
The company has begun production of 50 million Silicon Carbide components on a surface-mount packaging line, with plans to ramp up to 100 million devices.
With the addition of new assembly lines, CDIL's total capacity has increased to 600 million electronic components per year.
Gulati stated that the company's second phase will also be under the SPECS scheme, and for the third phase, it will apply under an India Semicon Mission plan that offers up to 50% incentives.
