With the goal of becoming 100% dependent on green energy by 2050, a cement factory in Sonbhadra district began the process of switching to solar power energy on Wednesday with the formal inauguration of an 8.50 MWp DC solar power plant on the campus of UltraTech cement's Dalla unit.
The total power consumption in this plant is currently around 27 MW, and the solar power plant will now meet nearly one-third of this requirement, according to the company's Dalla unit head Rahul Saighal, following the formal inauguration of the unit by district magistrate Sonbhadra Chandra Vijay Singh.
According to officials, reducing one MW of power consumption from a coal-fired power plant will result in a reduction of 820 Kg CO2 emissions, highlighting the company's vision of switching to 100% green power by 2050. They also stated that the solar energy generated will be used in the cement plant and staff colony.
