In order to provide cloud services and artificial intelligence to Indonesia, including the construction of data centers, Microsoft has committed to investing $1.7 billion in the nation, as revealed on Tuesday by visiting CEO Satya Nadella.
As the American corporation looks to boost growth with its generative AI technology, Nadella's first destination on his tour of Southeast Asian nations is Jakarta. Later this week, he has a trip planned to Malaysia and Thailand.
In order "to bring the latest and greatest AI infrastructure to Indonesia," Microsoft has decided to increase its investment in data centers and cloud computing by $1.7 billion, as stated by Nadella in Jakarta, the Indonesian capital.
"So we're going to lead this wave in terms of AI infrastructure that's needed."
According to Communications Minister Budi Arie Setiadi, Nadella met earlier on Tuesday with Indonesia's departing President Joko Widodo and his cabinet officials to explore collaborative AI research and talent development.
By 2025, Microsoft will provide 2.5 million individuals in Southeast Asia with AI training, according to Nadella.
With a $2.9 billion investment in cloud and AI infrastructure in Japan and a $1.5 billion investment in UAE-based AI startup G42, Microsoft is attempting to increase its support for the worldwide growth of AI.
Nadella is in Jakarta for two weeks after Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple Inc., met Widodo and said that he will investigate the possibility of establishing a production plant there.
Due to its large and technologically literate population, Indonesia is a prime target market for investments in the IT sector in Southeast Asia.
Microsoft surprised Wall Street last week with its third-quarter sales and earnings, mostly due to the benefits of integrating artificial intelligence into all of its cloud services.
