India will continue focusing on coal-based power, union coal and mines minister G Kishan Reddy stated. India's coal production target is projected to reach 1080 million tonnes during 2024-25. Speaking at an event for the launch of the 11th round of commercial coal mine auctions, Reddy stated, "Power is not possible without coal, and life is not possible without power."
An official announcement indicated that 27 coal mines are available in this round. Among these, 20 coal mines will be available for bidding, consisting of 10 Fully Explored and 10 Partially Explored blocks. An additional seven coal mines are part of the second attempt of round 10 that are currently being offered.
Reddy stated that measures should be implemented to reduce coal imports for power and steel initiatives. "Imported coal-based steel and power projects must look for opportunities to switch to using domestic coal."
The declaration mentioned that these mines are anticipated to generate approximately Rs 1,446 at crores at peak-rated capacity.
The Minister urged coal producers to accelerate production, assuring them of full government support in obtaining clearances and addressing matters related to land acquisition. "Commercial coal mines should start operations soon and contribute towards India’s energy independence."
