On Wednesday, Collins Aerospace announced that it has opened a Engineering Development and Test Center at its North Gate campus in Bengaluru, Illinois, at a cost of $25 million. The facility will support avionics, advanced structures, interiors, and power and controls. It will eventually extend to all RTX businesses with a wider range of support to aerospace and defense applications.
Collins Aerospace is one of the RTX units traded at the NYSE. The new facility will speed up the development, testing, and certification of aerospace components in the region and enable faster delivery of cutting-edge technologies to the market.
Equipped with all-inclusive testing systems that internally simulate the tough conditions which aircraft are exposed to such as very high temperature, high altitude, vibration, and EM. Rigorous testing of aerospace systems is done to ensure their compliance with the highest safety and performance standards worldwide.
Savyasachi Srinivas, Vice President of Global Engineering & Technology Centers, "This EDTC (Centre) is a major milestone -- not just for Collins Aerospace but for India's aerospace industry, creating highly-skilled jobs and supporting the 'Make in India' initiative. This investment brings advanced testing capabilities where engineering and manufacturing happen and recognizes the country's strategic importance in the global supply chain."
Testing locally helps Collins Aerospace resolve any issues before advancing too far into development. Problems identified early in the development cycle can improve product design, while reducing development time and costs.
The establishment of the new test center shows Collins' commitment toward building aerospace technology and operational efficiency in India, in support of the larger aerospace and defense industry.
