A Borders-based cabling company has announced plans for a £42 million factory in Abu Dhabi.
Emtelle, with headquarters in Hawick, employs hundreds of people worldwide.
It referred to the facility's construction as a "huge statement of intent" as it expanded its operations.
It stated that it would assist it in increasing manufacturing capacity and expanding its presence in key markets such as the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Jordan.
Emtelle said the new plant would be one of the world biggest factories for the manufacture of fibre optic ducting and "pre-connectorised solutions".
It is the result of an agreement between the KEZAD Group and Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi.
"This agreement marks a transformative day for Emtelle, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, and the world," Emtelle Group CEO Tony Rodgers said. Emtelle has made a significant statement of intent by providing the manufacturing space required to ramp up our capacity " As a result, supply chains will be significantly reduced, ensuring the security of supply for both existing and new customers."
"The UAE has always been at the forefront of technological advancement in the region," said KEZAD Group CEO Mohamed Al Khadar Al Ahmed.
Emtelle's decision to establish their central global hub in Abu Dhabi demonstrates KEZAD's ability to connect businesses around the world.
"We are proud to be at the start of an era in which the Middle East and Asia Pacific region's digital connectivity will be made in KEZAD."
The proposals follow major expansion plans announced in the United States last year.
Emtelle currently employs 250 people in the Borders, out of a total workforce of 750 people worldwide.
