EP Manufacturing Bhd announced plans to build an automotive manufacturing facility in Melaka that will serve as a manufacturing hub for Malaysia's energy-efficient vehicles (EEV) and electric vehicles (EV). It said in a statement that the new facility, which will cost more than RM100 million, will be built in stages at the Hicom Pegoh Industrial Park.
According to the company, the project will create approximately 1,000 new jobs in Melaka, and the first phase of the facility will have a production capacity of 30,000 vehicles per year.
"In close collaboration with our strategic partner, BAIC International Development Co Ltd, we are poised to build a cutting-edge EV manufacturing facility in Melaka, ushering in the next chapter in our growth trajectory."
"Additionally, we are excited to work with our esteemed customer, Great Wall Motor, to help position Malaysia as a central hub for EV and EEV in the ASEAN region," said EP Manufacturing group CEO Ahmad Razlan Mohamed.
The manufacturing facility, according to MIDA CEO Datuk Wira Arham Abdul Rahman, perfectly aligns with the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint, National Automotive Policy, and Malaysia's New Industrial Master Plan 2030 aspirations.
