Foxconn is establishing a manufacturing site near Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport. Preliminary construction is beginning on Foxconn's manufacturing complex, which will be located on 300 acres of land near Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport. Hon Hai Precision Industry (Foxconn) purchased the land in May 2023 for Rs 300 crore ($37 million).
"We have transferred the required land to Foxconn, and they have initiated preliminary construction work, which is progressing rapidly," S Selvakumar, additional chief secretary, Karnataka Department of Industry and Commerce, told Moneycontrol. While no formal groundbreaking ceremony was held, the corporation may organize one in the future. "All issues have been resolved, and the project remains on track."
According to officials, the manufacturing facility will be located in the Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) industrial region of Doddaballapur in Devanahalli Taluk.
Foxconn is investing Rs 8,500 crore in the manufacturing complex, which is expected to create over one lakh job opportunities in the state over the next ten years.
Production at the plant is expected to begin in April 2024, with investments carried out over three phases. Foxconn plans to invest Rs 3,000 crore in Phase 1 (2023-2024), Rs 4,000 crore in Phase 2 (2025-2026), and Rs 1,000 crore in Phase 3 (2026-2027). One lakh iPhones will be manufactured by December 2025, 50 lakh by December 2026, one crore by December 2027, and two crore by December 2028.
The Taiwanese electronics manufacturer's move is part of its goal to diversify production away from China. Foxconn is Apple's principal supplier of iPhone components.
On March 20, the Karnataka government signed a significant memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Foxconn, in which the business promised to spend Rs 8,000 crore in a mobile manufacturing unit that will employ 50,000 people in the state.
