Foxconn, the primary manufacturer for Apple, is looking to broaden its presence in India by incorporating iPad assembly into its operations. Taiwanese company is contemplating utilizing their plant in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, to produce Apple's well-liked tablet devices, as per sources.
This step would signify a major increase in Foxconn's current activities in India, which have mainly concentrated on iPhone assembly up to this point.
Experts in the industry recommend that the skills needed for manufacturing iPads are comparable to those needed for building smartphones, which makes it a reasonable progression for Foxconn's operations in India. The growth is in accordance with Apple's plan to broaden its supply chain beyond China, a shift that has sped up in the last few years.
Sources informed the Economic Times that the potential start of iPad assembly in India is anticipated to commence in the second half of 2025. This timetable enables Foxconn to take advantage of India's Production Linked Incentive (PLI) program for IT hardware, which covers tablets.
Foxconn's intentions in India go beyond just putting together iPads. The company has recently declared a Rs 1,200 crore investment for constructing a new factory on land owned by the company. A mega factory is also being built near Bengaluru for iPhone manufacturing.
