Foxconn, a key supplier to Apple Inc, will begin manufacturing iPhones at the company's Devanahalli facility in Bengaluru by next April.

The project, worth Rs 13,600 crore, is expected to generate 50,000 jobs. Foxconn intends to complete the project in three phases and has set a target of producing two million iPhones per year from the new plant once all three phases are completed.

"The 300 acres of land identified at ITIR (information technology investment region) in Devanahalli will be given to Foxconn by July 1 of this year." Furthermore, the government will ensure a supply of 5 MLD (million litres per day) of water, quality power, road connectivity, and other infrastructure facilities," Karnataka Industries Minister MB Patil said.

Patil made the announcement after Foxconn representatives led by George Chu paid him a visit here. Karnataka's information technology and biotechnology minister, Priyank Kharge, was also present.
