Godrej Consumer Products Limited (GCPL) announced on Aug 10 that it has signed an MoU with the Tamil Nadu state government to build a manufacturing facility near Chennai, investing Rs 515 crore over the next five years.
Cinthol, Godrej Expert Rich Crème, Godrej Selfie Shampoo Hair Colour, and Goodknight will all be manufactured there.
"With the construction of this facility, we will create over 400 jobs in Tamil Nadu." This facility strives for a diverse and gender-balanced workforce. "Our plan is to hire 50% women for this facility, with 5% coming from the LGBTQ and PWD communities," said Nisaba Godrej, Executive Chairperson of GPCL.
"This development holds great promise," said M. K. Stalin, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, "as it is set to have a positive impact on our local economy by generating employment opportunities and driving our state's industrial growth."
Thiruporur Taluk, Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu will be the site of the new facility. According to a press release from the company, this strategic choice ensures access to critical southern markets and facilitates meeting requirements in neighbouring regions.
"The investment of Rs 515 crore over the next five years is in line with GCPL's long-term strategy to actively participate in India's growth journey and our unwavering commitment to deliver affordable best quality and innovative products to consumers," said Nisaba.
