Hitachi Energy has opened a new factory in Chennai specialising in high-voltage direct current (HVDC) and power quality solutions. In addition to the MACHTM control and protection system, which supports transmission and power quality solutions, the factory will produce advanced power electronics for HVDC Light, HVDC Classic, and STATCOM. These solutions are critical for integrating renewable energy and stabilising electrical grids, so the factory plays an important role in accelerating the energy transition. It will increase Hitachi Energy's production capacity and provide advanced renewable energy solutions to both the Indian market and the global demand.
The factory, the world's second testing lab for power quality control solutions, will serve India's growing number of high-voltage transmission projects as well as global HVDC installations.
More than half of India's HVDC links have been completed by Hitachi Energy, including the North-East Agra link and the 6,000-megawatt Raigarh-Pugalur link. The North-East Agra link is the world's first multi-terminal ultra-high voltage link, serving 90 million people with clean power. The Raigarh-Pugalur link transports power from central India to southern consumers over a distance of 1,830 kilometres.
Claudio Facchin, CEO of Hitachi Energy, believes that investments in grid infrastructure and innovation, as well as a sustainable energy system, are critical to advancing a sustainable energy future for all. N Venu, Managing Director and CEO of Hitachi Energy India & South Asia, added that the new facility would help customers achieve a sustainable energy future for all.
