PTC Industries' subsidiary, Aerolloy Technologies, has set a significant milestone by becoming India’s first private company to commission a Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR) furnace for producing aerospace-grade titanium alloy ingots. The German-engineered facility, inaugurated in Lucknow, boasts an impressive annual melting capacity of 1,500 metric tons and can produce ingots with diameters of up to 1,000 mm. This development propels India into an elite group of nations, including the United States, Russia, China, France, and the United Kingdom, capable of manufacturing such advanced materials for aerospace applications.
The VAR furnace operates under vacuum conditions, ensuring a superior metallurgical structure and uniform alloy composition—critical factors for jet engine components and airframe applications. Jim Collins, Chief Technology Officer of PTC Industries, remarked that the facility aligns with global standards, further enhancing India’s aerospace manufacturing capabilities. Chairman Sachin Agarwal highlighted the strategic significance of this achievement, noting that it effectively reduces India's reliance on imports for high-grade titanium alloys.
PTC Industries is also broadening its aerospace manufacturing capacity with a new facility in the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor. This integrated titanium and superalloy mill will produce a range of aerospace-grade materials, including ingots, billets, bars, plates, and sheets, further strengthening India's position in the global aerospace supply chain.
