India's aerospace manufacturing capabilities received a significant boost as the C295 program obtained crucial approval from the Directorate General of Aeronautical Quality Assurance (DGAQA), the regulatory authority in the country. This approval allows for the local production of detailed parts and sub-assemblies for the C295 aircraft under the Airbus Defence and Space Quality Management System (QMS).
The approval represents a major step forward in strengthening India's aerospace manufacturing infrastructure. Airbus Defense and Space, in partnership with Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), will spearhead the production of these components at multiple facilities across India. The official certificate presentation ceremony took place on February 12, 2024, at the C295 Main Components Assembly facility located in Hyderabad. Sanjay Chawla, the Director General of Aeronautical Quality Assurance, presented the certificate to Michael Schoellhorn, the CEO of Airbus Defense and Space, and Masood Hussainy, the Head of Aerostructures and Aero Engines at Tata Advanced Systems Limited.
The collaboration between Airbus and TASL underscores a mutual commitment to upholding the highest standards of quality and precision in aircraft manufacturing. Jorge Tamarit Degenhardt, Vice President and Head of the C295 India Programme at Airbus Defense and Space, highlighted the significance of this certification, emphasizing the continued trust and confidence of DGAQA in Airbus's quality standards.
The approval of the C295 program signifies India's progress towards self-reliance in aerospace manufacturing, aligning with the government's "Make in India" initiative. It also reflects the growing collaboration between international aerospace giants and Indian companies, fostering technology transfer and skill development in the country's aerospace sector.
