Chairman N Chandrasekaran announced that the Tata Group will generate 500,000 manufacturing jobs over the next five years in sectors like semiconductors, electric vehicles (EVs), batteries, and associated industries. Speaking at a conference hosted by the Indian Foundation for Quality Management, Chandrasekaran emphasized the importance of manufacturing in India's quest to become a developed nation.

Chandrasekaran emphasized that without employment growth in the manufacturing sector, India will not realize its goal of becoming a "Viksit Bharat" (Developed India). He stated that over one million individuals enter the workforce in India each month, making job creation in manufacturing critical to the country's future prosperity.

“Between our (Tata Group's) investments in semiconductors, precision manufacturing, assembly, electric vehicles, batteries, and related industries, I think we will create five lakh [500,000] manufacturing jobs in the next five years,” he said.

One of the important initiatives he noted was the Tata Group's forthcoming Assam semiconductor facility, as well as other EV and battery production facilities. The Tata Group Chairman admitted that, while the specifics of these projects are still being worked out, preliminary calculations indicate that these investments will have a multiplier impact, producing more job prospects. He stated that the manufacturing environment is expected to see the birth of approximately 500,000 small and medium-sized firms (SMEs).

Chandrasekaran also emphasized the need of job creation in India, particularly in areas such as semiconductor manufacturing, which have a "multiplier effect" and can generate several indirect jobs.
