According to the provisional data, India’s iron ore production was 177.2 MT in the previous year. Iron ore production in the country increased by 3 percent to 182.6 million tonnes (MT) during the April-November period of the current fiscal year.

The mines ministry stated that the nation’s manganese ore production increased by 9.5 percent to 2.3 MT in the April-November period compared to 2.1 MT in the same period of the last fiscal year.

Chromite production increased to 2 MT compared to 1.8 MT in the same period last year. Bauxite production increased by 8.9 percent to 15.9 MT during the April-November period, compared to 14.6 MT in the same months of the prior fiscal year.

"In the non-ferrous metal sector, primary aluminium production in FY 2024-25 (April-November) posted a growth of 1.1 per cent over the corresponding period last year, increasing to 27.91 lakh tonnes (LT) in FY 2024-25 (April-November) from 27.60 LT in FY 2023-24 (April-November)," the mines ministry said.

India ranks as the second-largest producer of aluminium and the fourth-largest producer of iron ore globally. Ongoing increases in iron ore production in the present financial year indicate strong demand conditions in the steel industry. With the increase in aluminium and copper, these trends suggest ongoing strong economic performance in industries such as energy, infrastructure, construction, automotive, and machinery.
