The Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ), established as India's first dedicated medical technology park in Visakhapatnam, has emerged as a vital hub in the global medical technology ecosystem, according to its Managing Director and founder CEO, Jitendar Sharma. During the COVID-19 pandemic, AMTZ played a pivotal role in addressing the critical demand for medical equipment, producing 250 ventilators, 500 oxygen concentrators, and 10 lakh RT PCR kits daily at its Nadupuru facilities. These contributions were instrumental in saving countless lives across the nation during the health crisis.

Founded in 2018, the AMTZ was developed on a 270-acre site in a record 342 days. It features state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities and 18 high-end scientific amenities, such as testing centers and specialized labs, which streamline the production of medical devices. Manufacturers can establish their units within the zone and commence production immediately, leveraging the park’s comprehensive infrastructure. Initially envisioned to house approximately 240 production units, the park has already seen 152 companies setting up operations, with additional units planned for 2025.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, during a visit to AMTZ on July 11, highlighted its transformative impact and credited Jitendar Sharma for turning a conceptual idea into a groundbreaking reality. Reflecting on its genesis, Mr. Naidu noted that AMTZ’s establishment was a result of forward-thinking policy combined with effective execution. Sharma, who served as an Adviser on Medical and Health to the Naidu government in 2017, was lauded for his vision and leadership, which have positioned AMTZ as a cornerstone in India's healthcare infrastructure.

AMTZ’s success underscores the value of strategic collaboration between government policy and expert leadership. With its continued expansion and innovation, the MedTech Zone is not only boosting the domestic manufacturing of critical medical devices but also contributing to India's aspirations of becoming a global leader in medical technology.
