India’s plastics recycling sector, valued at 9.9 million tonnes in 2023, is expected to expand to 23.7 million tonnes by 2032, indicating a compound annual growth rate of 9.86%. Industry experts emphasized the importance of technology, food-grade ARPET granules, and a labor force of 50 lakh rag pickers in progress in the industry. India's PET recycling sector, currently the biggest globally by capacity, has experienced an investment of Rs 10,000 crore in the last three years, with intentions to double this investment soon, as per industry officials.
Bhadresh Dodhia, the head of the PET Recyclers Association (Bharat), stated that India recycles 95% of its PET bottles each year, with an estimated capacity of five lakh tonnes. He observed that governmental policies, including the requirement for 30% recycled material in plastic packaging by 2025, have stimulated investment.
