In New Delhi, the third round of applications for the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for white goods has garnered committed investments amounting to ₹3,516 crores. This initiative is designed to enhance domestic manufacturing of components for air conditioners (AC) and LED lights. A total of 38 applications were submitted, resulting in the provisional selection of 18 new companies.

Launched in April 2021 with a budget of ₹6,238 crores, the scheme aims to position India within global supply chains for white goods. It will facilitate the domestic production of components such as compressors, heat exchangers, LED chip packaging, and light management systems.

Among the newly approved entities, ten manufacturers are specializing in AC components and 8 in LED components, collectively committing ₹2,299 crores in investments. Furthermore, six existing beneficiaries have upgraded to higher investment tiers, contributing an additional ₹1,217 crores to the overall investment. These investments are anticipated to fortify India's manufacturing landscape and diminish reliance on imports.

In total, 84 companies participating in the scheme have pledged investments amounting to ₹10,478 crores, which is expected to yield production valued at ₹1, 72,663 crores. The initiative offers incentives for incremental sales, providing benefits ranging from 6 percent to 4 percent over a five-year duration. The domestic value addition in this sector is forecasted to increase from 15-20 percent to 75-80 percent.
