India strengthens collaboration with Thailand on trade, innovation

A common understanding has been reached between India and Thailand to strengthen their cooperation in many advanced technologies. The countries have agreed to take their collaboration further toward developing joint collaboration in the areas of digital facilitation, electric mobility, robotics, space, biotechnology, as well as ventures and startups. In addition to improving the linkages in infrastructure, they considered areas of financial technology and improving digital linkages, and opportunities to develop stronger economic and technological relationships.

India and Thailand attach great potential to their current collaboration, with increasing opportunities to go further - in not only collaborating bilaterally and in the regional context - but also in the wider global context, which has different geopolitical dynamics. India and Thailand's leaders have agreed to elevate their bilateral trade relationship to that of a "Strategic Partnership." This is a defining moment and a clear signal of highly intensified collaboration to explore operating at the fullest joint capacities of the two nations.

Indian's Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Thailand based on an invitation by his Thai counterpart, Paetongtarn Shinawatra. Upon his visit, Modi signed agreements with Thailand in multiple areas enabling collaborative movement forward.

“We have decided to strengthen cooperation in renewable energy, digital technology, e-vehicles, robotics, space, bio-technology and start-ups. In addition to enhancing physical connectivity, both the countries will work to boost FinTech connectivity,” Modi said during a joint press statement.

India and Thailand have agreed to develop new areas of trade and investment, particularly in industries of the future, such as renewable energy, electric vehicles, digital technology, robotics, information and communication technology (ICT), space technology, biotechnology, the creative industry, and startups.

India and Thailand, in recognition of the deep historical ties stemming from a shared civilization, culture, religion, and language, and the 78 years of diplomatic relations deduced that there is a firm foundation to reinforce their bilateral relationship, which was true during the ongoing high-level bilateral talks between the two leaders.

In the spirit of this, both sides exchanged views on a wide range of cooperation spanning defence and security; trade and investment; connectivity; science and technology; innovation; space; education; health care; culture; tourism; and people-to-people engagement. Both sides also exchanged views on some of the key developments on sub-regional, regional, and global issues. Both leaders also greeted the formation of an India-Thailand Consular Dialogue as a new platform to improve mutual engagement.
