Foxconn, Apple's hardware manufacturing partner, is reportedly planning to begin production of the iPhone 15 series at its Tamil Nadu plant soon. Foxconn is preparing to assemble the upcoming iPhone 15 at its Sriperumbudur plant.
In addition to Foxconn, the report claims that Pegatron and Wistron (soon to be acquired by Tata Group) are working on iPhone 15 manufacturing in India and are currently sourcing components.
Apple has been producing iPhones in India since 2017, with the iPhone SE being the first model assembled there. Last year, the company began manufacturing the iPhone 14 just three months after its launch, and this year, the company is closing the manufacturing gap between India and China. This means that the'made-in-India' iPhone 15 could be on store shelves within a few weeks of its official launch.
However, Apple has only been manufacturing the base variants of the iPhones, while the Pro iPhone models are still manufactured exclusively in China. According to a recent report, Apple has also begun manufacturing AirPods at its Hyderabad factory in India.
Due to the ongoing political tension between US and China, Apple is slowly moving its manufacturing footprint outside China, and India has gotten the most out of this development, where, 7 per cent of iPhone production comes from India.
