The Japanese company Yokohama Rubber Company has announced ambitions to increase its passenger car tyre manufacturing in India. The company intends to invest 671 crore rupees ($80 million) in Yokohama India to increase its annual tyre production capacity in the Indian market.

Yokohama India, which has been in operation since 2007, specialised in creating tyres that are specifically designed for Indian driving conditions. The extra capacity will be implemented at the company's current production in Visakhapatnam, India. The new plant, which will specialise in 22-inch passenger car tyres, is set to open in the fourth quarter of 2024.

Yokohama's annual production capacity has increased significantly, rising from 700,000 tyres in 2014 to 1.53 million tyres in 2019 and 1.96 million tyres in 2021. Furthermore, the company's Bahadurgarh, Haryana, factory now has an annual capacity of 2.8 million tyres.

Yokohama manufactures off-road tyres in three locations: Tirunelveli (Tamil Nadu), Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), and Dahej (Gujarat).

The tyre manufacturer recently increased its retail presence in Tamil Nadu by opening its 51st outlet in Salem. This location provides as a full exhibition for Yokohama's product line, which includes passenger vehicle and SUV tyres. Furthermore, the brand's YIN dealership outlets provide a variety of tyre-related services, such as wheel alignment and wheel balancing.
