
Kalyani Powertrain, a fully-owned subsidiary of Bharat Forge, has entered into a technology licensing agreement with Compal Electronics of Taiwan to produce X86 platform servers in India. On March 6, 2025, the companies concluded a Memorandum of Understanding to promote server business by utilizing locally produced solutions, backing the Indian government's "Make in India" initiative.
According to the agreement, Compal will offer Kalyani Powertrain technological assistance for servers, which includes supervising local manufacturing, assembly, testing processes, and final sales. The electronics sector of Kalyani Powertrain started its production at the manufacturing plant in Pune, Maharashtra in February 2025.
Amit Kalyani, the Vice Chairman and Joint Managing Director of Bharat Forge, stated that the collaboration with Compal would enhance India's manufacturing capabilities. Compal's CEO Tony Bonadero conveyed his contentment with the partnership, highlighting that Kalyani Powertrain's expertise in the Indian market would produce synergistic benefits.
The partnership seeks to bolster India's expanding technology infrastructure by offering local server solutions for AI tasks, cloud services, and data management. It is in agreement with nationwide initiatives to lessen reliance on foreign technology equipment.
Founded in 1966, Bharat Forge has evolved into one of the largest producers of automotive parts in India. The company has expanded into multiple sectors such as defense, aerospace, and currently information technology infrastructure via its subsidiary Kalyani Powertrain.
Established in 1984, Compal Electronics is among the largest global producers of notebook computers and electronic devices, boasting significant expertise in IT hardware production and assembly.
The collaboration marks an important advancement in India's initiatives to enhance local manufacturing capacities for essential technology infrastructure parts, as the need for data centers and cloud computing rises in the nation.
