Intel announced on Friday that it will collaborate with eight Indian electronics manufacturing service providers and original design manufacturers (ODMs) to speed laptop manufacturing in the nation. Bhagwati Products Ltd, Dixon Technologies India Ltd, Kaynes Technology India Ltd, Optiemus Electronics Ltd, Panache Digilife Ltd, Smile Electronics Ltd, Syrma SGS Technology Ltd, and VVDN Technologies Pvt. Ltd are the eight firms.
The American multinational tech giant said in a statement that the collaboration with the eight manufacturers, some of whom would be making their first step into laptop manufacturing, will help it meet domestic and worldwide demand.
Intel will contribute its experience to allow the production of whole entry-level laptops in India, including the use of cutting-edge surface mount technology lines, the establishment of a quality control mechanism for components, and even the benchmarking of final devices. Intel also offers ODMs support for both semi-knocked-down and completely-knocked-down processes.
"Intel's collaboration with the Indian manufacturing ecosystem is a watershed moment for the Indian electronics industry." Intel has been a key enabler of various electronic ecosystems around the world, and we are looking forward to doing the same in India. Bringing in Intel's technology investments and global system supply chain ecosystem knowledge demonstrates our commitment to developing electronic manufacturing capabilities in India. "By enabling the laptop manufacturing process—from surface mount technology assembly to finished product—we are not only meeting the Make in India initiative's demands, but also contributing to the nation's technological progress," said Santhosh Viswanathan, Intel's vice-president and managing director for the India region.
Later in November, Intel will hold the India Tech Ecosystem Summit, which will bring together a significant number of local businesses to display gadgets developed in India.
"I am delighted that global organizations such as Intel are collaborating with India to help build and catalyze the electronics manufacturing ecosystem for laptops and computers." This aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of driving India's digital economy to $1 trillion and enabling the electronics manufacturing ecosystem to contribute $300 billion by 2025-26," said Rajeev Chandrasekhar, minister of state for electronics and information technology, skill development, and entrepreneurship.
