Mahindra Showcases State-of-the-art Battery Assembly Unit

Mahindra has unveiled a cutting-edge manufacturing and battery assembly facility at its Chakan plant, designed as a fully integrated ecosystem for producing Electric Origin SUVs. This development is part of the company's commitment to advancing India's EV manufacturing capabilities. The EV manufacturing hub boasts an advanced, highly automated production setup, employing over 1,000 robots and automated transfer systems. With a strong emphasis on skill development, quality, and diversity, the facility aims to achieve a 25% gender diversity ratio, reflecting Mahindra’s inclusive and forward-looking workplace ethos.

Strategically located within Mahindra’s sprawling 2.83 km² Chakan manufacturing hub—one of India’s largest greenfield projects—the facility is notable for being water-positive and powered entirely by renewable energy. Mahindra has allocated ₹4,500 crores out of its ₹16,000 crore investment cycle for FY22–FY27 for this hub, which includes powertrain development, two product "top hats," software and technology integration, and expanded manufacturing capacity.

Covering an 88,000 m² footprint for EV operations, the Chakan plant features a fully automated press shop, an AI-powered body shop, and one of India’s most advanced robotic paint shops, ensuring top-tier quality and operational efficiency. These capabilities align with Mahindra’s ambition to deliver next-generation Electric Origin SUVs.

This state-of-the-art facility underscores Mahindra's commitment to innovation and sustainability and contributes to India's position as a global leader in EV manufacturing.
