Montra Electric, a division of TI Clean Mobility Private Limited, has opened a new manufacturing facility for electric small commercial vehicles (e-SCV) in Ponneri, Chennai. Operated by its e-SCV division, Tivolt Electric Vehicles Private Limited, the plant aims to boost production capacity and meet the rising demand for electric commercial vehicles in India.
The inauguration was attended by Arun Murugappan, Executive Chairman of Tube Investments of India Limited (TII), Jalaj Gupta, Managing Director of Montra Electric, and Saju Nair, CEO of Tivolt Electric Vehicles.
The facility spans 5 lakh square feet and can produce 50,000 vehicles annually. Located near the Kolkata highway, 35 kilometers from Chennai, it strengthens Montra Electric's foothold in the small and light commercial vehicle market.
The plant will primarily manufacture the EVIATOR, Montra Electric's newest electric small commercial vehicle. The EVIATOR boasts an industry-certified range of 245 km and a real-world 170 km range, and it delivers 80 kW of power and 300 Nm of torque. The vehicle has an extended warranty of up to seven years or 2.5 lakh km, and advanced telematics ensure fleet uptime of more than 95.
Montra Electric aims at accelerating the adoption of electric commercial vehicles in India to contribute to the growing EV ecosystem of the country. The company operates across various segments in electric mobility, ranging from heavy to small commercial vehicles, three-wheelers, and tractors.
