Optoelectronics Manufacturer Carl Zeiss to invest EUR 250M to establish Lens Production Plant in India

As per a top corporate executive, Carl Zeiss India is investing more than €250 million to establish a spectacle lens production plant in Bengaluru, which will be the German optical systems group's largest 'vision' factory in the world. According to managing director Miguel Gonzalez Diaz, the investment demonstrates India's strategic importance as a significant driver of prospective growth for the Zeiss company. Construction on the acreage purchased two years ago will begin next month. The project is scheduled to be completed in October 2024.

Diaz stated that the company, which operates on an October to September fiscal year, intends to close current fiscal year with sales of 1,800 crore and expects to treble sales in fewer than six years.

Carl Zeiss AG, also known as ZEISS, is a German optical system company.ZEISS operates in nearly 50 countries in four business divisions with roughly equal revenue (Industrial Quality and Research, Medical Technology, Consumer Markets, and Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology), has 30 production sites, and approximately 25 development sites.

Carl Zeiss AG is the holding company for all subsidiaries under the Zeiss Group, with Carl Zeiss Meditec AG being the only one that is publicly traded. Carl Zeiss AG is owned by the Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung foundation. The Zeiss Group is headquartered in the small town of Oberkochen in southern Germany, with Jena in eastern Germany serving as its second largest and founding location.
