In yet another step toward Aatmanirbharta in the defence sector, PM Modi will dedicate to the nation on February 6 the HAL Helicopter Factory in Tumakuru, the foundation stone for which was laid in 2016. It is a dedicated new greenfield helicopter factory that will increase the capacity and ecosystem for helicopter production.
The largest helicopter manufacturing facility in Asia will first produce Light Utility Helicopters (LUH).
According to the government, the LUH is an indigenously designed and developed 3-ton class, single-engine multipurpose utility helicopter with the unique feature of high manoeuvrability.
In the future, the factory will be expanded to manufacture other helicopters such as the Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) and the Indian Multirole Helicopter (IMRH), as well as repair and overhaul of the LCH, LUH, Civil ALH, and IMRH. In the future, the factory may be able to export Civil LUHs.
This facility will allow India to meet its entire helicopter requirement domestically, earning the distinction of enabling self-reliance in helicopter design, development, and manufacturing in India.
The factory will be built in accordance with Industry 4.0 standards.
HAL intends to produce over 1000 helicopters weighing 3-15 tonnes from Tumakuru over the next 20 years. This will result in the employment of approximately 6000 people in the region
Aside from that, the prime minister will lay the groundwork for Tumakuru Industrial Township. This development, which spans 8,484 acres and is part of the Chennai Bengaluru Industrial Corridor, is funded by the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme.
Modi will also lay the groundwork for two Jal Jeevan Mission projects in Tumakuru, Tiptur and Chikkanayakanahalli.
The Tiptur Multi-Village Drinking Water Supply Project will cost more than 430 crores to build. The Multi-village water supply scheme for 147 habitations in Chikkanayakanahlli taluk, on the other hand, will be built at a cost of around 115 crores. The projects will make it easier to provide clean drinking water to the people of the region.
