With an investment of ₹27,000 crore, the Tata Group plans to establish a semiconductor manufacturing factory in Jagiroad, Assam. Renowned businessman and philanthropist Ratan Tata declared on March 20 that the facility will place the northeastern state on the map of the world.
Ratan Tata wrote on X that the investment will establish the state as a key participant in the semiconductor area and included images of himself, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran.
The state of Assam is being transformed by the investments made in sophisticated cancer treatment. Ratan Tata declared, "Today, the Assamese state government, working with the Tata group, will establish Assam as a major player in advanced semiconductors."
The Assam government and the Tata Group have previously partnered to establish many cancer treatment centers around the state.
"This new invention will make Assam more widely known worldwide. Ratan Tata wrote on X, "We would want to express our gratitude to Mr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, for his vision and cooperation in making this all happen.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the facility's importance in empowering the state's youth after the announcement. "We decided to establish a Skill Development Center that will be co-located within the premises of the semiconductor facility in Jagiroad today during my discussions with the Tata leadership," Sarma said on X.
"By providing courses in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and electronics, this center will empower youths from the North East and assist them in securing jobs in the Jagiroad unit," the speaker declared.
One thousand and five hundred Assamese adolescents, predominantly women, are undergoing training at Tata facilities located in and around Bangalore. When the semiconductor plant starts up in 2025, this will put them in a leading position," he continued.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Tuesday that the first semiconductor chip produced in India will be available by December 2024.
In the meanwhile, the two factories in Gujarat and Assam, the foundation stones of which were placed on Wednesday, are expected to begin producing semiconductor chips commercially in 2026, according to the Tata Group.
