Singapore-based Sembcorp Industries said that it has commissioned a 588 MW solar power project in Oman. Dubbed Manah 2 Solar Power Plant, the facility represents Sembcorp's first Greenfield renewable energy investment in the Middle East and its largest utility-scale solar farm to date. The site, which spans 6.8 million square meters, is set to carry over 1 million bi-facial photovoltaic solar panels optimized for maximum energy production.
The plant will benefit from a 20-year, 500 MW power purchase agreement with Nama Power and Water Procurement Company, Oman's electricity procurement company. It will supply clean energy to approximately 60,000 homes, offsetting carbon emissions while supporting Oman's renewable energy aspirations.
Sembcorp will integrate the proprietary digital energy management platform, NetZeroOS, in the facility to allow timely monitoring and predictive analytics. This gives means for very efficient operations at this facility and enhances its overall performance in the plant.
The inauguration ceremony saw Bilarab bin Haitham Al Said, Oman royal family member. This marked yet another important aspect related to the project, a testament to how important this one is to the region. Worldwide, Sembcorp is making an impact as well. The company features prominently on the map of developing renewable energy in India, particularly when the issue concerns initiatives on wind and solar projects.
