On Sept 4, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated a Rs 550-crore grinding unit of Shree Cement Ltd in West Bengal's Purulia district. This is the company's first such unit in the state, with a capacity of 3 million metric tonnes per annum (MTPA). It will provide direct job opportunities for 1,000 people.
According to a Shree Cement Ltd official, the state-of-the-art facility is strategically located to meet the growing demand for cement in West Bengal and neighbouring Jharkhand, as well as to increase the company's market share in eastern India.
He stated that it is entirely funded by the group's internal accruals and that commercial production has already begun.
Congratulating the company, the chief minister said that this substantial investment would strengthen the state's industrial prowess and underscore its growth potential in the cement sector.
"We are excited to see the positive impact it will have on our region's economy and job opportunities," she said, virtually launching the project from a real estate conference in Kolkata.
Shree Cement Ltd chairman HM Bangur announced plans to build a new plant in West Bengal.
"This venture not only creates job opportunities for the region, but it also allows us to improve our manufacturing capabilities, allowing us to meet the burgeoning needs of the West Bengal market," he said.
