STL, a local optical and digital solutions provider, has partnered with Hygenco, a green hydrogen solutions firm, to get green hydrogen for its production plants.
"Through this long-term offtake agreement, Hygenco will construct, own, and operate the Green Hydrogen facility for STL for the next 20 years." This facility will be powered by renewable energy and operational over the next 15-18 months, according to a statement issued by STL on Oct 12.
STL stated that the project will be the "first green hydrogen project in India's optical industry" and contribute to the company's goal of going net zero by 2030. Gases such as hydrogen and oxygen are regarded as difficult to decarbonize sectors in the optical fiber value chain. Through this collaboration, STL and Hygenco want to reduce carbon emissions by roughly 30% yearly.
STL currently uses electrolyzers that run on conventional energy. Hygenco's renewable energy-based electrolyzers will allow STL to source its hydrogen needs. This system will be equipped with autonomous energy management and control, as well as constant monitoring and real-time decision-making to ensure maximum efficiency.
"Through this collaboration with Hygenco, STL embarks on a transformative journey towards sustainability, harnessing the power of green hydrogen, an eco-friendly solution that empowers our Glass plant with clean energy," stated Ankit Agarwal, CEO of STL.
