With a formal groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, Swedish defense company Saab began building on its new production site in India for its renowned Carl-Gustaf M4 guns. The facility is being constructed in MET City in Jhajjar, Haryana, in the state of Haryana. According to the firm, the State boasts a robust industrial foundation with competent workers and excellent prospective partners.

Sweden and India are celebrating a significant anniversary today. The first foreign-owned defense production facility in India will be Saab's plant. Håkan Jevrell, the State Secretary for Foreign Trade of Sweden, believes it is evidence of the close bilateral ties between our two nations.

Saab claimed that it has formed a new business, Saab FFVO India Pvt Ltd, which would wholly control the new production plant and produce the Carl-Gustaf M4 weapon after gaining clearance for a 100% foreign direct investment.

With great pride, I am beginning the construction of our first Carl-Gustaf plant outside of Sweden. This product has a long history of being used by the Indian military forces. Görgen Johansson, Senior Vice President and Head of Saab's business area dynamics, expressed excitement about beginning manufacturing of their fantastic product, which is now engineered and built in India. Since 1976, the primary shoulder-fired weapon used by the Indian Army has been the Carl-Gustaf.

According to the firm, Saab intends to collaborate with Indian suppliers and adhere to the "Made in India" regulations for the systems produced at the plant. In the new factory, Saab will use cutting-edge carbon fiber winding and sighting technology to manufacture Carl-Gustaf M4 for the Indian armed forces, as well as components that may be used in other users' systems.

The ammunition for the Carl-Gustof has several ranges, with a maximum range of 1500 meters. The anti-tank ammo has a 500-meter range..

The Ordnance Factory Board and the recently formed Defense Public Sector Undertakings produce the older Carl-Gustaf and older ammunition in India. Company representatives have already said that they will keep producing these products.
