Tata Advanced Systems Ltd. has secured a contract from Airbus to produce cargo and bulk cargo doors for the A320neo passenger aircraft and its derivatives, expanding the supply chain integration of local enterprises involved in the aviation and aerospace sector.
Airbus stated in a statement that Tata Advanced Systems would manufacture these doors at a new plant in Hyderabad utilising cutting-edge robotics and automation technologies, adding that each shipset will contain two cargo doors and one bulk cargo door.
“We have an ongoing relationship with Airbus based on trust and operational excellence, and this new contract win will further bolster our partnership in aerospace manufacturing in India.” said Sukaran Singh, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Tata Advanced Systems.
IndiGo, Go First, and the Air India Group are among Airbus' clients in India for the A320 series of aircraft. Air India placed a record order for 470 aircraft in February, 210 of which will be A320neos. Tata Sons owns both Air India and Tata Advanced Systems.
Airbus is also scheduled to deliver about 300 A320neo family aircraft to India's leading carrier IndiGo, after an order placed in October of 2019.
Airbus now purchases components and services from over 100 Indian vendors worth $735 million per year, supporting approximately 10,000 employment in India. This figure is expected to climb to over 15,000 by 2025, according to the statement.
Airbus and Tata Advanced Systems will also begin production of the C-295 military aircraft in Gujarat, where government land has already been set aside.
Aside from Airbus, Tata Advanced Systems also works with Airbus' competitor Boeing, producing floor beams for the Boeing 787, tail fins for the Boeing 737 MAX, and fuselages for Apache assault helicopters.
