Tata Electronics has announced plans to establish a display manufacturing unit in Gujarat in collaboration with Taiwan-based Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) and Himax Technologies. The agreement was unveiled by Tata Electronics CEO, Randhir Thakur, at the IESA Vision Summit. A tripartite deal has been signed with the Gujarat government for the new plant.

In addition, Tata Electronics is in the process of setting up a semiconductor fabrication facility in Gujarat with an investment of approximately Rs 91,000 crore, with PSMC serving as the technology partner.

Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC), the world’s seventh-largest pure-play foundry, operates four 12-inch and two 8-inch fabs in Taiwan, with an annual production capacity of over 2.1 million 12-inch equivalent wafers.

"Today, I am delighted to announce signing of an MoU between Tata Electronics, PSMC and Himax to revolutionise India's display product and technology ecosystem. With PSMC's proven technology, Tata Electronics will manufacture display chips for Himax in Dholera, Gujarat," Thakur said.

Tata Electronics is also investing Rs 27,000 crore to establish a chip assembly plant in Assam. This plant will play a key role in enhancing India’s semiconductor manufacturing capabilities, contributing to the country's push for self-reliance in critical technologies and supporting the growing demand for electronic components.
