Tata Group will expand its presence in Assam by setting up an electronics manufacturing unit and by supporting green energy projects in the state. This adds to the ongoing investments of the group, which include Rs 27,000 crore for a semiconductor unit being set up in Jagiroad, thereby ensuring that Assam gets a seat on the development bus.

"The Tata group has a long and significant association with Assam...Taking forward the group’s commitment towards the state, it will invest in another large electronics manufacturing unit soon", said Chandrasekaran.

Tata Electronics has begun construction of the semiconductor assembly plant at Jagiroad, in the Morigaon district of Assam, at a cost of Rs 27,000 crore. The plant is set to start 2024 and create 27,000 jobs in Phase one. Phase two is expected to be completed next year when the plant will produce 4.83 crore chips per day using advanced indigenous technologies. Tata production will be supplied to a variety of industries from electric vehicles to consumer electronics, by major multinationals.

The new semiconductor facility will soon be established for Rs 27,000 crore with Union Cabinet clearance led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Supported by further synergies, Tata Group will continue its unwavering commitment to build Assam as an economic powerhouse while ensuring that India is self-reliant in cutting-edge electronics and green energy space.
