Titagarh Rail Systems Secures Contract from GMRC to Manufacture Metro Cars

Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (TRL), formerly Titagarh Waggons, announced on Aug 30 that it has received a letter of acceptance from Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) for a Rs 350-crore contract for the design, manufacture, supply, testing, commissioning, and training of 30 standard gauge cars. According to an official, the standard gauge cars are for the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Phase-II project.

"The prototype Metro car must be completed in 70 weeks, and the entire contract must be completed in 94 weeks." The cars will be built at Titagarh Rail Systems' Uttarpara plant in the Hooghly district, according to Titagarh Rail Systems' director of marketing and business development, Prithish Chowdhary.

There will be ten trains, each with three cars.

GMRC is implementing the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Phase-II project at a cost of Rs 13,500 crore. The project will extend the city's existing Metro network by 28.2 kilometres.

According to him, the Kolkata-based company recently received a contract from Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) to supply 24 Metro trains for Phase-I of Surat Metro at a contract value of around Rs 850 crore.

TRL is also involved in several other Metro rail projects across the country.
