The Vietnamese automotive company, VinFast is poised to invade the Indian market, which is expected to bring an unprecedented change to the country's automotive industry.
Revealed at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo, VinFast announced plans to establish automotive production facilities in the Tamil Nadu area, specifically in Tuticorin, within a three-month period. This is a significant step in its India expansion plan.
The robust infrastructure of Tamil Nadu and its location as a maritime state were the deciding factors for Tuitcorin. In the initial stage, the plant plans to produce 50,000 units every year, which will achieve the final goal of 150,000 units. Alongside the left-hand and right-hand drive models, other models such as the VF3, VF5, and i34 will also be produced in that facility. Construction is 90% complete, and soon the plant will be operational there. It is one of the EV hubs located in Chennai, Krishnagiri, and Coimbatore.
The investment of VinFast will create about 3,500 new jobs and will increase the local economy. The company plans to use collaboration with local suppliers as a means to ensure a competitive pricing level. VinFast India’s line-up will include the VF7 electric SUV as the debut vehicle, it will then be followed by the VF6 and VF3 targeting the mid-premium segment.
Carrying out its activities VinFast is already establishing shipping connections with Haiphong Port, Vietnam, which is facilitating the imports of electric vehicle components and the exports of assembled vehicles. The production is set to start in May, with the official launch in June.
The movement of VinFast only rubber-stamps the state as the leading EV hub in the country. The company would like to streamline production and maximize the exports of the Indian market. This would make India a significant part of the global EV market as it is setting the trend for sustainable transportation.
