VinFast, a Vietnamese automaker, has announced that the groundbreaking ceremony for its electric vehicle factory in North Carolina will take place on July 28.
This will be North Carolina's first electric vehicle manufacturing facility, contributing to the supply of electric vehicles in North America and accelerating the global green mobility revolution, VinFast said in a statement on July 19. The factory is expected to begin production in 2025, according to the statement.
The Triangle Innovation Point in Chatham County, North Carolina, will house VinFast's manufacturing facility.
VinFast's factory, which spans approximately 1,800 acres, is designed to produce 150,000 vehicles per year in phase 1. The factory will be divided into two sections: electric vehicles production and assembly
In addition, the complex will house additional supplier businesses. According to VinFast, the project has received the necessary permits to begin Phase 1 construction. VinFast's factory will create an ecosystem of suppliers and help generate thousands of new jobs once the manufacturing complex is operational.
"The North Carolina manufacturing facility is one of VinFast's key projects," said Le Thi Thu Thuy, Chief Executive Officer of VinFast Auto.
"Once operational, the factory will serve as VinFast's primary supplier of electric vehicles to the North American market, allowing us to optimise production and business operations."
"We hope that the Chatham County factory will help to advance the clean energy economy in the United States and support North Carolina's green mobility strategy," she added.
