Tamil Nadu plans to establish the India Centre for Advanced Manufacturing in collaboration with the World Economic Forum (WEF), with the goal of assisting businesses with their innovation, sustainability, and research and development (R&D) efforts.
T R B Rajaa, Tamil Nadu Industries Minister, presided over a public-private discussion with 20 business leaders about establishing the centre in Chennai. The discussions on Aug 22 focused on three key areas of focus for the Centre: technology adoption and innovation, industry-academia engagement, and sustainable production.
Rajaa expressed the state government's strong commitment to establishing the India Centre for Advanced Manufacturing in partnership with WEF and emphasized Tamil Nadu's pioneering role in leading India's economic growth and positioning itself as a forerunner in the fourth industrial revolution.
"Leaping into the future of manufacturing using 'Industry 4.0' principles is critical to meeting Chief Minister MK Stalin's target of a $1 trillion economy in Tamil Nadu." "We have already begun the digital transformation process, and Tamil Nadu's designation as the capital of advanced manufacturing will help us even more," he said.
Tamil Nadu already has three Centres of Excellence in collaboration with Siemens, General Electric, and Dassault Systemes, which provide critical support to start-ups and MSMEs in order to increase their competitiveness in both local and global markets. In addition, SIPCOT Parks in Sriperumbudur and Hosur have Industrial Innovation Centres (IICs) to foster industrial innovation and accelerate technology adoption.
